Yvonne Fein is a performed and published playwright, novelist, editor and lecturer. Her poetry, short stories, essays, book reviews and interviews have appeared in journals and newspapers locally, in the U.S. and the U.K. She has edited The Melbourne Chronicle and Generation journals, as well as award-winning Holocaust memoirs by survivors. She has been a writer-in-residence at a number of Melbourne schools and lectured extensively in the Jewish and wider Australian community. Her one-act plays were performed by the Melbourne Theatre Company at Sunday readings and a full-length drama, On Edge, at the Jewish Arts Festival and for a season at the Universal Theatre in Melbourne in 1988 and 1989 respectively. Her novel, April Fool, was published by Hodder Headline in 2001 and short-listed that same year for the Ned Kelly Awards in the “Best First Crime Novel” category. Commissioned by The Jewish Museum of Australia and the National Council of Jewish Women, her play, A Celebration of Women, starring Evelyn Krape, performed to a sell-out audience in February 2003 and was invited to the Magdalena Festival in Brisbane in April, 2003. She was highly commended in the U.S. Tom Howard Prose Contests of 2006 and 2007. In 2008, her second novel, The Torn Messiah, was published by Hybrid Publishers and she also completed her Masters degree in History with High Distinction at Monash University.
